OCA makes move to rope in Michael Bevan as consultant

In an effort to boost cricket in the state, Orissa Cricket Association (OCA) has sought foreign collaboration by negotiating with Austalia`s former leading limited-overs batsman Michael Bevan to become its consultant. Accepting the invitation, Bevan was in Cuttack, inspecting the infrastructure facilities at Barabati Stadium and interacting with office-bearers, coaches, selectors and
other support staff of OCA.

If terms and conditions are finalised then Bevan, a member of two Ashes Series and two World Cup winning Australia team, would be in-charge of all-round development of cricket in Orissa, motivating individuals and teams to improve their performance, building team culture, implementing successful coaching practices and methodologies, setting selection policies and strategies, organising training sessions etc.

An accredited Level-3/High performance cricket coach, Bevan was all praise for the infrastructure facility after inspecting different parts of Barabati Stadium, including players` dressing rooms, corporate box, pavilion, gymnasium, media conference hall and Orissa Cricket Academy yesterday.
He then had several rounds of discussions with OCA office-bearers, including president Ranjib Biswal and secretary Asirbad Behera.

Speaking at a press conference today, Bevan said he would first try to develop good understanding with administrators, players, coaches and support staff before deciding on the best course of action for realisation of the future goal.

Bevan also conducted a session for coaches, selectors and support staff, enlightening them about the modern methodology of cricket coaching, management and marketing. He is scheduled to interact with players of the Orissa senior team during the opening day of their Ranji Trophy Super League match against Punjab at Bhubaneswar tomorrow.

Asked about his suggestion for the improvement of Orissa Ranji team`s current performance, the Aussie all-rounder was bang on target, saying ``Players need to be consistent.``
